How to Reset Windows 10 Password
This article will walk you through how to reset a Windows password from the command line.
Force shutdown system at least two or three times. This is how to do that
-
- Press and hold power button until system shuts down.
- Press power button to turn on and as soon as you see the circular dots press and shut down again. Repeat these steps until you see "Preparing Automatic Repair".
- Once the Automatic Repair screen appears, choose the Advanced Options
- Choose Troubleshoot
- Again, select Advanced Options.
- Then click the System Image Recovery
- Once in the System Image Backup window, choose the Cancel on the box that appears over the screen.
- At the bottom of the dialog box click the Select a system image radio button and click Next.
- In the next screen, click the Advanced…
- Click the Install a driver choice in the screen.
- Next click the OK
- In the file system find the Utilman It is in the Windows\System32 folder.
- Rename the Utilman file to Utilmana and hit the refresh to verify the change.
- Locate the cmd file within the System32 folder and change the name to Utilman. Hit refresh to verify the change.
- Next close the window, cancel next 2 windows and then chose Continue Windows 10 should restart.
- Once you are at the login screen, click the Ease of access button in the lower right-hand side of the screen.
- In the CMD screen that appears, type net user and press enter. This will display all users.
- Next type net user [the username] * and press enter.
- Type a password for the user you listed above for a new password or just press enter to clear the password and have no password.
- Press enter again to or type in the password again.
- Close the CMD screen and enter the new password or just hit enter if you cleared the password and the system will login to the desktop.
- Once you completed the hack of the password on the system, you need to return to system32 and change the Utilman file back to cmd and then the Utilmana file back to Utilman.
